Recently we went to the French Quarter to share the love of Jesus. There are many outreaches conducted by Christians in New Orleans and sadly many are led by well meaning believers who condemn rather than showing the love of Jesus.
In Romans, Paul warns the Church about harsh judgment and reminds us of God’s longsuffering towards our sin. “And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” Romans 2:3-4 NKJV
A better translation of the end of verse 4 is: “the kindness of God leads you to repentance?” It is the kindness of God that we want to show on our outreaches in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
God sent us to Spider a local soothsayer and warlock. He had been cursed and harassed by Christians over the years, but we released the love of Jesus all over him. In the end he allowed us to pray for his healing from a couple of diseases. We didn’t compromise the gospel, but we approached him with the love of Jesus. Cassandra was able to share the story of the prodical son, and it was visible that Spider was moved.
We also meet James, a homeless man who was sitting in a store front cooling off from the heat. We offered him a couple of bottles of water and he allowed us to pray for him. We spoke blessing and the Fathers love into his life. Brian and Cassandra laid hands on James and shared the gospel with him. He received the love and we saw his countenance change as he did.
We prayed for others and shared prophetic words of encouragement with many that day. Some received what the Lord was doing while others cursed and turned away. We will continue these outreaches throughout the summer. God loves New Orleans and it is a ripe mission field yearning for the Presence of the Lord.
